Welcome To Camp Hayo-went-ha
In 1993, Beal City upper elementary students were introduced to the wonder and awe that is Camp Hayo-Went-Ha. Since then, they’ve enjoyed the opportunity of spending a week each year at Hayo-Went-Ha on beautiful Torch Lake between Traverse City and Charlevoix. The camp has 640 acres of Pine, Maple, Oak, Birch, and Cedar forests. This along with a mile and a half of shore line makes for incredible beauty and pristine scenery throughout its rolling hills.
Camp Hayo-Went-Ha provides our students with a fun, five day adventure, which links outdoor experiences with classroom subjects. The outdoors is a natural “Living Laboratory” which lends itself to many environmental, science, math, reading, writing and social studies related activities. Our students participate in a variety of educational experiences including Habitat Studies, Water, Plant and Animal Education, Survival Simulation, High Initiatives Courses, Action Socialization Experiences (obstacle courses for the brain), Climbing Towers, Pamper Pole, Crafts, Archery, High Ropes Courses, and Earth Education. These activities had been adapted to add to the benefits of a tremendous residential setting. With a fully trained staff from around the world, our students gain new insight into other cultures. This wonderful opportunity provides students a chance to get in touch with the natural world through “hands on” experiences and self-discovery. The students of Beal City Schools greatly benefit from the amazing opportunity camp provides for them to challenge themselves to be the best they can be and gain experiences that they can to relate to well beyond the school year.
