Maybe Baby, It's You a Smash!
by Cindi Gigowski
The Drama class, made up of students in grades 9-12, presented its production of Maybe Baby, It’s You by Charlie Shanian and Shari Simpson to the community on Wednesday November 28th and the audience gave rave reviews. “This was the funniest play yet!” and “This play was hilarious!” were heard throughout the auditorium. In addition, the cast enjoyed performing, saying the audience’s laughter gave them even more energy. Matt (Spanky)Yuncker’s spastic dancing was loved by all – except Matt, who insists he can dance, and that he was embarrassed at having to dance so poorly. Kendra Flaugher, who sang off-key beautifully and garnered comments like, “Kendra’s singing was outrageously funny,” reflected, “the play was really good. I loved the comedy in it and everybody did a great job. All of the
rehearsing and practicing really paid off.”

The play was different than any we have done so far. Nicki Smith said, “I liked that there was variety in the scenes and the problems somewhat related to real life.” “Everyone had to go out of their comfort zones – some more than others – and it was great,” said Brooke Huber. Senior Jackie Ovaitt said, “for having such a young, inexperienced cast, it went surprisingly well.” The director, Ms. Gigowski, agreed and had this to say: “This was a terrific experience for me; this is the first time I’ve had an entire cast know their lines on time, which gave me more time to direct. This group was also great at taking direction, and we worked hard on comedic timing, which paid off well if the audience’s reactions are anything to judge by. I thought the play was awesome.”
