The Stars Are Shining At Beal City High School
by Cindi Gigowski
On Wednesday night, eleven students teamed up to entertain the
Beal City Community, and they succeeded beyond all expectations.
The competition was fierce, and the performers were at the top of
their game, making it difficult for all of us in the audience to
guess who the judges would choose. The judges, who always struggle
with awarding the top places, said they “were heartbroken” at
having to narrow it down to only two this year.
Alisha Chamberlain evoked smiles and memories with her rendition of
“Famous in a Small Town” by Miranda Lambert. Mirinda Sides braved
the stage and bared her emotions when she performed three of her
original, touching poems. Sunni Evan’s tugged at our heart strings
with her dedication to her grandmother, “I Miss You” by Miley
Cyrus. Unjust System, composed of Chaz Hook, Adam Schafer and Sean
Massey, rocked the house with their medley, and the dance team had
us tapping our toes as Karly Schafer, Amy Finnerty, Eileen Cotter,
and Ashley Steffke danced to Barry Manilow’s hit “Jump, Shout,
Boogie.” Finally, newcomer Jessica Edmonds surprised the crowd when
she sang Carrie Underwood’s hit “Don’t Forget to Remember Me.”
As we waited for the judges to deliberate, Kassie and Alisha
Chamberlain teamed up with their father Kevin to perform “Stand
Still, Look Pretty” by the Wreckers. Their voices combined in an
impressive duet, complementing each other perfectly. The audience,
which was vocal and supportive throughout the night, was wowed.
We couldn’t have asked for a better show, but in the end, only two
acts could be chosen to represent us in the Morey Foundation Talent
Show in February, and as hard as the choice was, the judges finally
narrowed it down to two. They (and I) are fully confident that the
dance team of Karly Schafer, Amy Finnerty, Eileen Cotter, and
Ashley Steffke and the singer Jessica Edmonds will wow that
audience as much as they did us last night.
