HEARING AND VISION SCREENING

The Health Department will be here the week of November 2 testing student's hearing and vision.  Students in Preschool, Kindergarten, Second and Fourth grades will have their hearing checked, while students in Preschool, First, Third and Fifth will have their vision checked.  If you would like to have your child's vision and hearing checked, please call the elementary office at 644-2740.  We will include them on a separate list for the technician.

FUNDRAISER DELIVERY

The fall fundraiser items will be delivered to school on Wed., Nov. 4.  Your child's order will be available for pick up in his/her classroom after 2:00 p.m.  Students are allowed to bring their orders home if it will fit in their backpacks.  Large orders must be picked up by an adult during regular school hours.  All orders need to be picked up by Fri., Nov. 6.

PICTURE RETAKE DAY

Now that students finally received their fall picture packages, we have scheduled our Retake Day for Wed., Nov. 4.  If you want your child's picture retaken, please send the package back to school.  Only students with picture packages or money will be sent down to the photographer.  REMINDER - Yearbook payments need to be sent in by Retake Day so they can be given to the photographer.  Late payments for yearbooks will be taken through Nov. 18.

END OF FIRST NINE WEEKS

Friday, November 6 marks the end of the first marking period.  Students will be dismissed at 11:40 a.m. and no lunch will be served on that day.

BOOK FAIR

The PTO will be sponsoring the Fall Book Fair which begins on Mon., Nov. 9.  Students will be visiting the Book Fair two times (once to browse and once to purchase).  We have attached a schedule to this newsletter so you can see when your child will be visiting the book Fair.  In order to help parents do some shopping of their own, the Book Fair will be open during conferences.  It will either be set up in the main lobby or the cafeteria.

VETERAN'S DAY ASSEMBLY

Beal City Schools will be hosting an assembly to honor all veterans and present members of our military.  We hope all our local military men and women will make an effort to attend.  The assembly will take place in the high school gym at 10:00 a.m. on Nov. 11.  The program will last 20 - 30 minutes.  The whole Beal City community is invited.  We hope to have a large crowd here to honor our veterans.

PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES/VACCINATION CLINIC/CHILD SAFETY SEAT INSPECTIONS

Parent-Teacher conferences will be held on Thurs., Nov. 12.  School will not be in session on that day.  Individual conferences will be set up for all students.  Conferences will be scheduled during the following time blocks:  8:00 - 11:30 a.m., 12:30 - 3:00 p.m., and 5:00 - 8:00 p.m.  Notices will be sent home with the youngest student in the family on Fri., Nov. 6.  Once conferences are scheduled it is very difficult to change them, so please let the office know prior to Nov. 6 if you need to come in during a specific time block.

Central Michigan District Health Department will be holding an H1N1 vaccination clinic during conferences.  An informational letter and registration form were sent home earlier in October.  The Health Department must have a completed registration form on file in order for your child to receive the vaccination on Nov. 12.

The isabella County Sheriff's Department, in conjunction with Child and Family Enrichment Council will be offering free child safety restraint seat inspections Nov. 12, during Parent-Teacher Conferences.  Children must be present.  Please contact Jennifer Swanson with the Isabella County Sheriff's Department at 989-772-5911 for further details and to schedule an appointment.

REPORTING COMMUNICABLE DISEASES

Central Michigan District Health Department mandates that all school offices report to them weekly any communicable diseases.  Confirmed cases of the following specific diseases need to be reported:  measles, rubella, mumps, hepatitis, scarlet fever, strep throat, scabies, pertussis (whopping cough), influenza types a (H1N1) and b, encephalitis and meningitis.  We also need to report the number of head lice cases and cases of seasonal Flu (seasonal flu is when children have pneumonia or fever accompanied by any of the following symptoms:  sore throat, cough, generalized aching in the back or limb muscles.  Vomiting and diarrhea alone are not indications of influenza).

Our reports cannot be accurate if we do not receive complete information from parents when absences are reported.  We will need the following information when reporting absences:  child's name, date of absence, symptoms (be specific - we need to know exactly how your child is feeling), whether he/she has been to the doctor or has an upcoming appointment, and the date he/she will be returning to school.  Your help as always is appreciated.
