ATTENDANCE LINE
When your child is absent from school it is necessary to notify the elementary office so the absence is excused. You may excuse your child's absence in a couple of different ways: by written note or a phone call. If you call in your child's absence, you may use the attendance line at 644-2201. The attendance line is an automated system; the option you choose to report elementary absences is #3. Please make sure you leave your child's name, the date of the absence, and his/her symptoms when you call in. If you have any problems trying to use the attendance line, please call the elementary office at 644-2740.
READING MONTH
Ms. Newman and Mrs. Higgins have been working hard planning March Reading Month. They have been planning some special events and assemblies. We have attached a calendar that will show you all the upcoming events.
FAMILY PAJAMA GAME NIGHT
Mayes Elementary and St. Joseph the Worker Schools will be sponsoring a Family Pajama Game Night on Friday, March 7, 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. in the St. Joseph the Worker School cafeteria. Families are invited to bring their favorite educational games along with blankets, beach towels, and pillows and to wear their pajamas. Examples of appropriate games would be: Yahtzee, Monopoly, Scrabble, Candyland, Boggle, Rummikub, Life, Chess and Cranium. Please leave electronic, video or handheld games at home. Tables, chairs, or a cozy spot on the carpet will be available for playing games. Refreshments will be served. ALL FAMILIES FROM BOTH SCHOOLS ARE INVITED TO JOIN US!!!
PARENT NIGHT
The Parent Advisory Committee is sponsoring an evening of fun and information for parents based on information developed by the Love and Logic Institute, Inc. Since 1977, the Love and Logic Institute has been dedicated to helping parents and teachers create responsible kids using a humorous format. On Thursday, March 27, parents will have an opportunity to view a DVD addressing how to get respect and responsibility out of their children of ALL ages. Love and Logic reading materials and CDs will be available on loan to parents. There will also be catalogs from which parents can order materials. The founder of Love and Logic, Jim Fay, has a humorous, common sense approach to parenting and working with children. WE STRONGLY URGE you to join us on March 27 from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. in the Beal City School Media Center for the best hour you'll spend this year! Refreshments and babysitting will be provided.
READ-A-THON
On Friday, March 28, all students in grades 4 - 6 will be taking part in a Read-A-Thon. All pledges they receive will be deposited directly into their individual camp accounts Students are only at school for a half day, so the entire morning will be devoted to reading. A Read-A-Thon packet will be sent home with students on Friday, March 14. The packet includes a pledge sheet. Our Read-A-Thon theme is camping so your child is encouraged to wear school-appropriate pajamas, bring trail mix, a blanket and several good books. All students in grades 4 - 6 will participate in the Read-A-Thon, whether they obtain pledges or not.
KINDERGARTEN ROUND-UP
Kindergarten Round-Up will take place on Tuesday, April 8. If your child will be five years old on or before December 1, 2008, he/she is eligible to start Kindergarten in the fall. Please call the elementary office at 644-2740 to schedule an appointment time. This year's preschoolers will also be going through Kindergarten Round-Up, so they will not have regular preschool on that day. Mrs. Natzel will be scheduling appointment times during her Parent/Teacher conferences.
PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCES
Thursday, March 6, we will be holding Parent/Teacher conferences for all students in grades preschool through sixth grades. Conferences will begin at 5:00 p.m. and end at 8:00 p.m. We do not have enough time slots to schedule conferences, so teachers will be seeing parents on a first come/first served basis. Please remember to keep your conferences at a ten minute maximum time limit so teachers can see as many parents as possible. If you feel that you require more time, you may schedule an appointment at a later date. Thank you for your cooperation.
