In my sixth year of teaching at Beal City and eleventh overall, I am enjoying more than ever teaching instrumental music at all levels. My primary instrument is saxophone, having played alto, tenor and baritone saxophone in a variety of ensembles. I also enjoy writing and arranging music in my fleeting spare time. Lately, I have found a great deal of enjoyment from doing home video producing on my computer as well.
I completed my Master's Degree in Music Education at Central Michigan University in August 2006. Before attending CMU, I received my Teaching Certificate in Instrumental Music at Eastern Michigan University and received a Bachelor's Degree in General Studies from the University of Michigan, with a triple minor in music, English and psychology. Before studying in Ann Arbor, I lived in Farmington Hills, a suburb of Detroit.
In the course of collecting all the collegiate parchment, I married my amazing wife, Shari, and we have three beautiful kids, Annika, Duncan and Connor. As all parents will attest, my kids now consume much of my free time. I have often felt my gift of music was my greatest gift - these three people have changed my mind.
I have been fortunate to have many travel experiences early in my life. Traveling to Europe four times in ten years, I have seen the countries of Germany, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, England and Scotland before beginning my teaching career. I have traveled with performing ensembles to Montreal, Washington DC, Toronto, Los Angeles, San Diego, Tampa, Jacksonville and Chicago. Since my family has moved around the country, I frequently visit Florida and Minnesota. I hope to continue these experiences - especially as my kids grow older and we can appreciate them together.
